Today I really enjoyed church. We had ward conference and our Bishop and Stake President both spoke to us. The spirit was very strong, and you felt it in your heart that these men were truly called of God. I loved feeling the humility and the love of God that these men demonstrated through their words and actions. I hope one day I can emulate that kind of humility in my own self. I had a special experience today as we were singing the hymns during sacrament meeting. I felt the Spirit very strongly and kept crying. I'm grateful to admit that just like most of you I feel the Spirit often in various ways. Sometimes, the Holy Ghost demonstrated itself to me as the Comforter, sometimes it whispers in my heart or mind with a specific warning or guidance or inspiration, and sometimes, like today, it just swells my heart with joy and gratitude for my Savior and His love for me. I don't know what it was that prompted it. It might have been the powerful words of my leaders, or the power of the Book of Mormon's words that I read today before church, or the truthful words of the song since I payed more attention to them having no voice to sing the melody because of my cold, or a combination of them all. Whatever it was, I'm grateful I had that experience. I felt humbled and loved to be a daughter of God. I felt happy and blessed to have the gospel in my life. I felt overwhelmed with love for my Savior. The song that touched my heart today was called "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Here are the words as well as the song sang by the Mormon Tabernacle:I Know That My Redeemer Lives
Peacefully
31243, Hymns, I Know That My Redeemer Lives, no. 136
1. I know that my Redeemer lives.
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead.
He lives, my ever-living Head.
He lives to bless me with his love.
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed.
He lives to bless in time of need.
2. He lives to grant me rich supply.
He lives to guide me with his eye.
He lives to comfort me when faint.
He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.
He lives to silence all my fears.
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart.
He lives all blessings to impart.
3. He lives, my kind, wise heav’nly Friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing.
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King.
He lives and grants me daily breath.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.
4. He lives! All glory to his name!
He lives, my Savior, still the same.
Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives:
“I know that my Redeemer lives!”
He lives! All glory to his name!
He lives, my Savior, still the same.
Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives:
“I know that my Redeemer lives!”
Text: Samuel Medley, 1738–1799. Included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835.
Music: Lewis D. Edwards, 1858–1921
I know that my Redeemer lives. No one can take that knowledge away from me. No one can prove it otherwise even with all the scientific explanations. I know it deep in my heart and mind, and that surpasses this earthly realm's understandings. I'm grateful for my Savior and the comfort He gives me.
