Grateful for others' example

As most of you, I've been following the story of Brandon Davies' Honor Code violation and what the media around the country is saying. It seems just about everybody has an opinion about BYU's Honor Code, when in effect it's something between Davies, BYU, and his team. I've been pleased however to read a lot of articles that praise BYU's integrity in not compromising its rules for a chance to win in the NCAA tournament. Now, I'm not a sport's fan, but I've been interested to see the reactions from different people around the country. As I would read the articles, I would also read the comments made by the readers. Some of them were baffled that a school would do that to its best player; others would be upset that a school would put a bunch of rules that nobody follows above their chance to win; and a few would applaud this act of integrity.

Today I was touched to hear from one of our youth share her feelings about this particular event and about life in general. Hearing this young woman testify that integrity and holding on to our values is eternally more important than games, grades, or anything that seem to occupy our daily lives, made my heart leap. I cannot truly say I was that mature at that age. I felt pride and gratitude for our youth, for these great young men and women who stand up to the evils of today's world and testify with strength and power of the importance of being righteous, of living a pure life, and of choosing to lead by example. I'm grateful to have an 'Honor Code" in our life, and I'm eternally grateful for the atonement, that when on occasion we fall, we could always pick ourselves up by the power and grace of Christ.
