Being together is all that matters
My children and I love Saturdays for many reasons, but the main reason is the fact that we get to have Elijah all day with us. We enjoy our outings every day, but when Elijah is with us we feel complete. Today, we all took it easy in the morning, and then in the afternoon got the kids in the car and headed toward Half Moon Bay. First, we stopped at some tide pools at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve by Moss Beach, where the kids and parents alike enjoyed looking for sea snails, sea anemones, hermit crabs, urchins, and many other sea creatures. I was surprised to see a lot of harbor seals just bathing on the nearby rocks. Of course, we were not supposed to touch them, so we just took pleasure in observing them nap. It was foggy and windy, so the whole time we were there, James was shivering. And sometimes he was shivering because he needed to go in the bathroom. Gillian and Jefferson were in competition who could find more anemones or crabs. Elijah was holding Charlton, and it seemed Charlton was happy to be carried around at eye level, instead of stroller level. I took advantage of having help with me. I kept exploring on my own and where ever I wanted. I really like marine biology; I love to learn as much as I can about the ocean and its amazing creatures. Even the most simple creatures, like the jelly fish, offer so much knowledge into the mysterious life of the ocean.

After we all felt like our fingers and toes were going to freeze, we decided to move on and get warm in our car. We drove around to check few beaches out, and determined that Montara Beach offered the best view of the ocean amongst the breath taking cliffs. The children had a good time playing in the sand, finding sea shells, and best of all flying a kite. James had given Elijah a kite for Father's Day so they could fly it together. The kite had Lightning McQueen picture on it, and so for today's movie they watched "Cars." James also chose a Lightning McQueen shirt to compliment his kite. He was so excited to be flying this kite with dad on his side. On the way to the beach, he kept holding Elijah's hand and feeling like a big boy. When I told him that I was getting jealous that he was staying with dad the whole time, he responded that he had me everyday, but dad only today. I guess I'll take what I can get.

After stopping to eat dinner on the way back, we all felt ready to head home. It had been a sweet kind of day. We all had a wonderful time being together, playing and learning. And we all felt better after we took showers and got rid of that sand, especially Charlton who seemed to like eating it.
