Today Charlton and I had an enjoyable day in San Francisco. The day was was warm and breezy, and since October and November are the best months to visit San Francisco's outdoor parks, I combined Charlton's and my desires in one trip.
Charlton got first choice, so we started our adventure by visiting The California Academy of Sciences. Since we come here often, my rule of thumb for me to not get bored is by asking Charlton to choose only two venues he wants to visit out of the many other options. Even on those two stops you can spend a whole day, but I had other inclinations so we kept it short and fun.
Charlton wanted to visit his little penguin friends who performed a beautiful dance right in front of his eyes. He never gets tired of this encounter. After the penguins, we visited his next best friends, the myriads of stunning looking fish that live in the Philippine Coral Reef housed in this beautiful museum. The diver was feeding the fish and answering questions from the audience. He had a microphone attached to him through which we could hear him talk about various fish. Charlton's favorite part in this area is finding the fish from pictures provided to the aquarium. He also loves touching the sea stars ( as we were told they are called, instead of star fish; they are not fish), and sea urchins.
The second venue he visited was the 4-story rain forest with the tilting sounds of tropical birds fluttering their wings all over the trees and the breathtaking butterflies sucking nectar from the colorful flowers.
We left the Academy of Sciences, and went across the street to the de Young Art Museum. Before entering the museum, we meandered around its atrium with its lotus shaped fountains, as well as the playful sculpture garden. Charlton and I enjoyed throwing water at each other, and trying to lift the pretty apples :)
When we went inside, we visited one art gallery with oil paintings, one glassware exhibition which we enjoyed tremendously, one room full of ancient Americas vases and pottery, and then took the elevator all the way to the top of the observation tower from where you could see the whole beauty of the Golden Gate Park with its surrounding areas. Charlton and I played hide-and-seek up there. On our way out, we spotted a painting of Superman, and since Batman (Charlton) and Superman are friends, we had to take a picture of those two together.
By this time, we were both tired and hungry, so we decided to eat our lunch while visiting the nearby San Francisco Botanical Garden. Oh, I loved the flowers displayed in this garden, and although Charlton was getting really tired, he was such a good sport in showing me his favorites.
We left San Francisco after having had a full day of pleasant activities, and drove through the new Bay Bridge with its white pillars beckoning us to come back.
